We were tasked with the restoration of original wood flooring that had been covered by tiles. The objective was to remove the tiles, restore the wood flooring to its former glory, and ensure a safe, level surface.
1. Removal of Tiles
The first step in the project was to carefully remove the tiles that had been placed over the original wood floor. This included tiles that were laid directly on the wood as well as those installed over a heavy-duty subfloor. The removal process required precision to avoid damaging the underlying wood.
2. Surface Leveling
Once the tiles were removed, the next phase involved assessing the surfaces for any unevenness. To prevent tripping hazards, we leveled the surfaces using appropriate leveling compounds. This step was crucial for ensuring safety and preparing the area for refinishing.
3. Wood Floor Restoration
The restoration of the wood flooring involved several detailed steps:
Cleaning: The wood was thoroughly cleaned to remove any debris, dust, and residue from the tile adhesive.
Filling Dents: Any dents or imperfections in the wood were filled with suitable wood filler to create a smooth surface.
Sanding: The entire wood floor was sanded down to remove the old finish and smooth out any rough areas.
Staining: After sanding, the wood was stained to enhance its natural beauty and match the desired aesthetic.
Varnishing: Finally, a protective varnish was applied to seal the wood and provide a durable finish.
The completed project resulted in a beautifully restored wood floor that not only preserved the character of the original wood but also provided a safe and level walking surface. The refinishing process enhanced the appearance of the wood, making it a stunning feature of the space.
